The Main Story

The main story (a book in itself) deals primarily with what happens to Éowyn, Faramir, Éomer and Lothíriel. It starts from events dealt with in ‘The Steward and the King’ and ends a little over a decade later.

As we’ve noted in our ‘About’ section, this began as an effort to fill in the gaps in narrative, and unexpectedly … just kept going.

We’d say it qualifies as “canon compliant” - if you’re expecting it to be just like Tolkien, you might be disappointed - it explores things he did not (the nitty gritty of daily life, work, marriage, children, all things which continue even if you happen to be a Hero of the Realm. However, as lawyers, we naturally respect precedent, and hence we’ve endeavoured to make our stories consistent with canon and all other writings by Tolkien.

We’ve also tried to show views from people who do not speak much in the canonical story—women, ordinary citizens and servants of Gondor and Rohan, and later, Haradrim who are seeking to smooth things over with King Elessar—while still trying to keep faithful to the constraints of Middle Earth.

If you’re a Tolkien nerd and want to know more about how we tried to make it fit, and what spaces we filled, you can go here.

  • The main story: a book in itself

Our fan fiction story starts before the Return of the King ends, and before Sauron falls, but continues well after the offical story ends.

(120,000+ words. We thought we should warn you.)

  • List of characters

Confused by all these characters? Wondering who is who? Here’s a handy list!

  • Death of Éowyn

Faramir always knew that his wife would predecease him, but he doesn’t want her to leave him.

(Short story, unfinished, because the author keeps bursting into tears)

  • Death of Faramir

The Lord Steward hasn’t coped well since his wife’s death. His children aren’t quite sure what to do. Faramir, on the other hand, has made a decision.

(Short story, unfinished, again because the author keeps bursting into tears)
